Why the “Old Ways” Are Winning in 2026

At the Topsail Foundry, we believe word-of-mouth and in-person relationships are the highest form of marketing.

If you’ve ever sat across from me at coffee, you know I’m not a “fine, how are you?” kind of person. I have a lifelong disdain for small talk. It feels like a missed opportunity. Sometimes, it feels like a waste of my time. (That’s the honest truth; sorry not sorry…)

I want to go deep, I want to hear the “real” version of how you got here, and I want to build a relationship that actually has some marrow to it. I’ve always been this way. Call it curious, call it long-winded, call it neurodivergent, whatever. 

For a few years, the internet told us to stop doing that. We were told to “keep it snappy,” use more emojis, and shorten our thoughts into 7-second loops.

FINALLY, my time is here. The pendulum is swinging in my favor. 

This isn’t just personal to me though; this is a huge opportunity for you to get remarkably close with your audience.

In 2026, the brands that are winning aren’t the ones with the loudest reels; they’re the ones with the most DEPTH.


1️⃣ The Return of the Long-Form

People are tired of the “scroll.” They are craving vulnerability, real lessons learned, and stories that don’t end in a sales pitch. We’re moving back to the blog. We’re sharing the messy, the strategic, and the unfiltered.

  • The Strategy: We’re taking these long-form stories and turning them into Google Business Profile posts. Why? Because while humans want the story, AI wants the data. It’s the best way to help the right people find you.


2️⃣ Community Over Algorithms

There is no “hack” that beats a 1:1 connection. I’m spending less time fighting the social media algorithm and more time in the community. In-person wins. Word of mouth wins. Looking someone in the eye and hearing their “onlyness” beats a double-tap every single time.


3️⃣ It’s personal. Like 1:1 PERSONAL.

We’re going back to “Old School” methods for past client relationships. Handwritten notes, personal check-ins, and intentional follow-ups. These aren’t just “goodies”—they are the foundation of a sustainable business. It’s about honoring the people who have already trusted you, rather than constantly hunting for the next stranger.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

If you’ve felt like you have “too much to say” for a caption, stop trying to shrink yourself. The world is finally ready for the deep dive again. 📖

Ditch the small talk.
